CSRC’s 32nd annual day celebration on March 14, 2025, was a tribute to over three decades of its remarkable journey. It was a gathering of diverse individuals, who have been instrumental in CSRC’s growth and success.
The event went beyond the typical celebration—it was a space for reflection, where CSRC members revisited the memories of the organization’s foundation and evolution. Stories of challenges faced, accomplishments and valuable lessons learned were shared, showing CSRC’s consistent dedication to the rights of the land-poor communities.
One incident with historical importance was shared. The organization’s founding chairperson Krishna Thapa, founding Secretary Nawaraj Basnet, and founding member Dr. Jagat Basnet reminisced about the struggles during the establishment of the organization. Initially, with the support of ActionAid Nepal, the organization’s founders were engaged in community work. While visiting the communities in Sindhupalchok, the local farmers expressed their grievances, saying, “We are not so concerned about any aid but deeply troubled by the lack of land ownership in our names. If you can, please help us secure land rights.”
These words deeply echoed, encouraging the organization to reevaluate its strategy and prioritize the fight for tenancy rights for farmers. Thus, the Land Rights Campaign was born—sparked by the genuine voices of the farmers themselves.
The current Chairperson of CSRC- Uma Aryal, vice-chairperson Hariprasad Pudasaini, secretary Man Bahadur Kshetri, treasurer Cheli Gurung, and member Saraswati Katwal, Admin and Finance Coordinator Geeta Pandit, former team members Kalpana Karki and Kumar Thapa shared experiences of their association with the organization.
On the organization’s foundation day, a book capturing CSRC’s history of 30 years was gifted to the guests. The book captures the organization’s contributions, experiences, ups and downs, and achievements over the past 30 years in Nepal’s land and agricultural rights movement. Additionally, the annual progress report, “Reflections 2024 – Land and Agrarian Rights Campaign in Nepal ,” was also inaugurated during the event.
